KOICHI DOMOTO “PLAYFUL”

Koichi Domoto will be releasing his 5th album “PLAYFUL” on 2nd June 2021! It’s been 6 years since his last album “Spiral”.

Collaboration with Square Enix

Square Enix, a Japanese video game development and publishing firm, collaborated on one of the songs “V” for the production of the melody, a short movie, written by Naoshi Mizuta. Those familiar with games will know that this company is famous for their games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc. Koichi is an avid gamer of these titles too. The short movie is a combination of reality and CG. With Koichi’s looks, I think he’s a perfect character for virtual reality movies too!

Familiar names

You can find familiar names for the song composers and lyricists. Komei Kobayashi wrote the lead song “Tik Tik Tik” for Limited Edition B this time. He gave us other Koichi songs like “I Just Want You”, “Over You” (from Spiral album), “Dead or Alive” (from Endless SHOCK OST), and KinKi Kids songs like “Candle Night” (from L album), “Give Me Your Love” (from Aitai Aitai Aenai single). Not to forget he also wrote many songs for other Johnny’s artists and groups including King & Prince (Wake Me Up), SixTONES (Hysteria), and Snow Man (Crazy F-R-E-S-H Beat).

I thought it was also interesting to see MiNE writing a couple of songs this time. I recalled seeing this name very often recently as well and went to search up and was mind-blown to see that he wrote “EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING” (by Snow Man, from Grandeur single). In fact, he has co-written the lyrics for Grandeur too. He also wrote another ballad like “Song for you ～君を信じて～” (by King & Prince, from their 1st album) which I like a lot too. With KinKi Kids song, he gave us “Plugin Love” (from N album), “CLASSIC” (from Topaz Love/Destiny single)

Last but not least, we have the super familiar lyrist pair Yuhki Shirai x Mika Arata who have produced many Koichi solo songs, such as “INTERACTIONAL” (from INTERACTIONAL/Show me Your Monster single), “Come Closer” and “Love Cries” (from Gravity album), Night Wanderer (from Spiral album), “Get It On” (from I album). They also have a list of songs such as Yoru no Umi (that tear-jerking number from Endless SHOCK) that are under their Japanese names 白井裕紀・新美香.
